Released in December 2016, it represented a major leap forward from its predecessor, TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5, after nearly five years of development. While the software has since been officially discontinued and succeeded by TMPGEnc Authoring Works 7, TAW6 remains a noteworthy tool in the history of video authoring.

TAW6 was originally sold as a full version for Windows 64-bit operating systems only (Windows 7 SP1/8.1/10).
