The Bender-Gestalt Test was first published in 1938 by Lauretta Bender, a psychiatrist, to assist in psychological, neurological, and educational assessments. It is based on the work of Gestalt psychologist Max Wertheimer, who used geometric designs to study the principles of visual perception. While Wertheimer asked participants to describe the designs, Bender had them copy them with a pencil and paper.
