Jacqueline Balcells is the pen name of Jacqueline Marty Aboitiz (born in Valparaíso, Chile, in 1944). She studied journalism at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Santiago. She began writing stories for her children and only started publishing them when she moved to France in 1982. Her work, which blends fantasy with realism, has been translated into English, French, and other languages.
